Biography
Shane Ralph | Director | Shane Ralph Decorative Painting LTD & SWR|DECArt Studio | Dublin | Ireland
Shane's love of the art started as a young man when working with his father in the UK. Shane had the privilege to work in such places as Harrods and many diplomatic houses over the years he was training. Originally Shane was a professional painter and decorator and as time passed became self-trained in the discipline of decorative arts. His natural ability along with a fierce dedication to discipline have brought him to be considered a master in his field.
Shane undertook formal decorative arts training at Atelier Nadaï under the instruction of Master Artisan Michel Nadaï (master craftsman of France). Shane was a teacher of decorative arts (CPD) in Mercy College Sligo and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Decorative painting (FFD) and a Member of The Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers (MSAPCT) a member of The Irish Georgian Society and winner of The David B Campbell Trophy in 2017 and has over 25 years’ experience in specialist decorative arts, restoration and conservation.
To Shane the challenge is the chase, the chase of achievement and seeing development, this is what keeps him driven.
His desire for perfection in recreation and his attention to detail are unquestionable.
In saying this, Shane has learned over the years that even with the utmost training, diligence and practice, you still have a lot to learn when it comes to the field of specialist decorative arts! To quote Socrates: “To know, is to know that you know nothing. That is the meaning of true knowledge.”
For Shane art is a learning cycle that is to be enjoyed and shared.
Lineage, teaching, craftsmanship, stubbornness and a deep-rooted drive to achieve the very best from himself, his colleagues, his clients and his students, are the key phrases that would most suitably describe Shane.

Shane has an ability to bring to life to the lifeless, to ignite intrigue in students and to connect with clients when discussing and delivering projects. His ability to marry the traditions of the past with modern minimalism is a practiced and well-honed profession, driven by quality.
Shane focuses on doing the job to precision and to teaching his students that time is everything, you must walk before you can run.
As the great master Mies Van Der Rohe, once said, sometimes “Less is more” In Shanes view quality over quantity.
